Watching birds in your garden or backyard is really so easy. And it helps anyone to appreciate the wonder of the wild life which is all around us - even in the heart of our big cities.

Pumpkin Projects for Kids

Pumpkin Bird Feeder

For a seasonal supplement to your regular bird feeder, cut a 3- to 5-pound pumpkin in half; scoop out, leaving a 1/2-inch thick wall. Cut a 1/2-inch-deep groove in the rim for pumpkin seeds. For perches, poke holes and insert twigs. To hang, knot two lengths of twine together in center; tack knot to feeder bottom. Fill with birdseed.

Pine Cone Feeders are super easy and less involved than the pumpkin feeder for those less "martha stewart-ish"!
Pine Cone Bird Feeder
Supplies for Pine Cone Bird Feeder:
  • pine cones
  • peanut butter
  • bird seed
  • string/yarn
  • something to hang it from, tree, porch, fence, etc.
Bird Feeder Supplies
Start with a nature hike to find your pine cones! Spread the peanut butter onto the pine cone. Roll it around in bird seeds. Tie a string at the top of the pine cone. Now hang it from a tree. Hopefully soon the birds will start munching!
HAPPY FEEDING!
